In light of new of Katie Couric's departure from CBS Evening News....simple question. What do you prefer to watch at 6:30? What is your trusted news source?
If you DVR it to watch later that also counts.

Rachel Maddow.
It's on at 6pm half the year -- and 7pm the other half. Depends what time zone you live in. Just like Larry King 6pm/7pm. But since I watch it streamed on my computer, doesn't matter when it timeslots!
I watch a local non affiliated 24 hour news channel CF News 13. No brain washing, mixed audio, edited tapes to worry about there!
I quit watching TV news soon after I got internet service, something like 15 years ago. Actually I pretty much stopped watching all TV about that time.
I listen to the CBC and catch the Newshour on PBS from time to time. If I want fluffy crap, I'll Watch E!, they do it better and they are funnier.
I used to watch NBC evening news until I realized that it only presented maybe 10 minutes of news and maybe 10 minutes of insignificant storytelling. Do they think I care about who "makes a difference"? Does anybody care?
"Making a difference" is the good news that people say the news shows never show. I like a happy ending, especially after all the bad news in the world.
I watch NBC because I like my information liberalized.
You can get that from any of them. They are the worst though.
It's a minute or so off good news that takes the edge off all the bad news. Do you know about the comedy/tragedy elements?
While tragedy tends to be a "serious" genre (running strongly to the dramatic), a too-serious approach can come across as heavy-handed. Comedy, used in this sense as a broad-based term for mirth, amusement and good fortunes, can be used to lighten a mood, relieve tension in tragic stories and even illuminate the tragic storyline by providing a counterpoint to it. http://anath2writing.blogspot.com/2009/10/comedy-and-tragedy.html
For me, that is what makes NBC evening news better than the others. I get the bad information but can balance it out with the good. Is it wrong to see how a single person can do so much to change the world around her?
NBC... but also watch and read several of other news sources... hell even wander over to fox a few times a week to see what is passing for news there.
I haven't watched a big 3 network news program since early in the year 2000 when our local cable system got the Fox News Channel. No need for anything else on TV, though I do get many other viewpoints on line and force myself to sit through a few minutes of an MSNBC Obama worship opinion session/program/propaganda every once in awhile so that I know what the opposition might be thinking.
Personally, I get plenty tired of the "we must do battle" theme of many of the news/opinion slots. I find my choice less polarized and more than adequate. I simply don't wish to know everything from every point of view. Hyper-criticism is just too wearing. Can no longer afford the indulgence of anger. Neither do I particularly having my opinions formed for me and convinced by what passes for passion. I have my own opinons and even those of others I agree with I do not want yelled at me.
I have no working TV anymore and I do not plan to buy a new one. I don't miss TV news at all.
Ah...a man after my own heart!
I never watch news on tv. It isn't even news anymore: it's "info-tainment."
I get my news from the newspaper, the radio, and the internet.
And I believe half of what I read and nothing of what I hear.
Cornhusker, you crack me up. You honestly aren't ashamed of being for Palin, that's just too goofy, sorry. Wow.
Are you ashamed of being for Obama? Support of him and hs policies are what is truly all too goofy.
I may not watch tv, but I'm still informed as to what's going on around me. Why watch the news, when commercials are more important, since it's the ads, not the news that make the major network their money.
I get my news from a variety of places - mostly blogs etc and then I form my views. Generally, the 1/2 slot is too predictable and way too shallow to help anyone w/ the problems facing society today.
Too bad there aren't any really good shows discussing the problems (immigration, SS, Medicare, education etc) with out the partisan divide and rancor. What ever happen to the civil discourse of a WF Buckley?
Unlike so many Americans, William F. Buckley Jr. had a spectacular command of the English language and able to articulate positions clearly and intelligently. He came from a different time when "journalists" actually were required to check their facts before publishing.
That's the truth. The good old days, when conservatives were actually educated. William F was calm, erudite, and could slaughter just about anybody in a debate. I doubt that that the people who claim to be conservative candidates these days could even spell educated without a smart phone or their minder.
I hop around the big three occasionally, but prefer the PBS Newshour as I enjoy complete news stories as compared to soundbites. Mostly, I read though. I like being able to review and cross-reference/check sources.
I dont watch or prefer any of them. TV news is just not news.
The internet where I can read, evaluate, double check and eliminate talking heads.
News? What news? Seriously, I have CBS on in the background; I watch it for whatever local news may leak through the fluff and illiteracy... so because the local stuff precedes the "Evening News," and I am too lazy to change the channel at 6:30, CBS is the one that is on. Do I actually watch it? Rarely. If there is something major happening, it may get my attention, but when they begin to repeat themselves, I'll start looking online for more info. At 7PM I change the channel to something I like for entertainment (usually reruns of "Bones" or "NCIS").
As a journalism major, I monitor all three of the network news programs daily, in addition to at least two of the local network affiliates, BBC online, one of the major aggregators - Google, Yahoo!, etc. - and the local paper.
As any journalism professor will tell you, if you want balanced coverage, multiply your sources.
Note, I didn't say I *watch* all of the broadcasts. I DVR everything so I can skip past the "happy talk," the "feel good" stories, and, of course, the commercials.
I don't watch Network news. I prefer reading news online or listening to NPR on my way to work.
I never miss World News Tonite with Diane Sawyer...Of course I suppose there goes my friend request I sent to Brian Williams now.. I just like her voice ..Somehow it soothes me.. Like today on a day where apparently there were more storms in one day all over the US than ever and there was a picture of a 10000 pound tree laying on top of what appeared to once be an SUV ..Somehow Dianes voice just soothes the souls and nurtures me back to everything is gonna be allright ...
I have a satellite dish and have access to FSTV and LINK. They are progressive news stations and are both online as well. I prefer my news in the morning, but the programs I view are available during the nightly news hour as well. I prefer these sources because of the lack of corporate ownership. Yes, both channels are definitely left leaning but I find the kind of journalistic analysis and in-depth attention to stories refreshing when compared to the juvenile dog and pony show being offered by the 3 networks and the 24 hour a day cable news channels. Charlie Sheen will NEVER be the lead story on any program broadcast by FSTV and LINK. That is, unless he has moved to a 3rd world country to devote himself full time to efforts to improve the lives of folks living there.
