The union backed liberal dems are hell bent on spending this country into oblivion because they just don't give a dam about anything or anybody but themselves.

Funny, from where I sit it looks like the GOP/TEA folk just keep moving the goalposts because they can't be seen agreeing with Democrats. The GOP/TEA are acting like children and think compromise means they get their way 100%.

Sorry, GOP/TEA. In compromise, you have to give, too and the other side gets concessions from you. You only control the House, a minority of the government, so you really don't get to run the show.

Nor will the GOP/TEA be running anything, their whining is very unappealing and will lead to their defeat in 2012.

Really? And Where Do You Get That?

My understanding is that Republican fiscal malfeasance far outspends that of the Democratic Party.

Of course, I have nothing invested in the Republicat Party as a dues-paying member of the Socialist Party USA.

As an aside, GE, America's largest corporation, has paid not one dollar in federal tax liabilities in years. In fact as GE has it figured, the US owes GE some 4.3 billion in tax credits -- even though it paid no federal tax credit.

What were you saying, jusbkoz about giving a damn about nothing or no one but themselves?

In light of the foregoing, exactly whom do your words describe?

    Oh, I SERIOUSLY Doubt That!

Outspent the Republicans? In what conceivable world? Not that it matters as I largely regard the two as factions within one Republicrat Party. How do I get that? Well -- my party affiliation is here.

The dems should have done their work before now , why did they sit on their thumbs anyway ? Hello you could have done a budget back when you had full control but you couldn't even manage that. Is it because you didn't want us to know what was in it before you passed it. Or just you are totally incompetent and just can't get off the spending train . Now you blame the Repubs for not doing your job and spending too much so when the gravy train stops you say it's not my fault I wanted to spend more but those bad Repubs and Tea people said no ,

      Dear Jelly:

That Constitution poses little problem for the fascistic right.

For myself, I regard constitutions as servants, not masters. If at any time we the people decide that we would be better served by another system of governance, they are at liberty to call upon the armed forces to protect a committee as it does the work of drafting a provisional, federal constitution. This provisional constitution might do such things as separate corporation and state, enshrine worker rights, and make other radical changes.

It is the right of we the people then to call for a national convention to dissolve the existing constitution, to adopt the provisional constitution as the new constitution, and to call general elections to establish the government of the Second, United States Republic.

I suggest calling it the United States of New America.

We need ask no one for permission. We need raise no hand against anyone to do it. All that is needed is for we the people to decide and then do.

      Any more questions, JellyFish?

It's one part of three. If the people wanted everything the GOP offer, they'd have the White House and the Senate.

I wonder if you felt the same when the Democrats held the House? Or were you whining then, too?

Enjoy having the House now, it won't last much longer, voters are already disgusted by the TEA GOP nonsense...expect to eat more sour grapes.

I don't think they "proposed" a shutdown. They stated that they have certain requirements in their budget and if they aren't met, or there is not enough compromise, the end result will be a government shut down. Personally, I don't mind. Essential services will remain. Social Security checks will continue to flow. I think its always a good way to find out how many government employees can be out of work and the country somehow continues to move along without them!

Doesn't it disturb anyone that the number of government employees (federal, state, local) is over 22 million. That is more than twice the number of people employed in industrial jobs in this country!

So i say let them shut it down. Maybe everyone will wake up and realize that the federal government isn't the solution to all our problems, but in fact the cause of many.

Jellyfish, the GOP have not compromised at all.

And every one of those federal employees does a job and has a family to feed. You should be proud, with your pleas to hurt them financially. Disturbing that you feel that way about your fellow Americans.

BTW, your job can't be too important if you are here during the workday.

              BeMyJellyfish

              Jonesy,

You have a lot of anger and bitterness going on. First of all, its not my responsibility to feed the families of government employees. As far as I am concerned, they are just cogs in the machine of an ever-expanding, all-encompassing federal government that has grown far from its intended functions.

Now having said that, don't presume to know what I do, or for whom I work. It's frankly a waste of my time to even respond to your ignorant comment, but maybe I can get you to stop and think about what is really going on in this country. Don't believe for a minute that either political party has the best interest of "the people" in mind. It is about power, influence peddling and political aristocracy.

Finally, its really sad that you have such a limited view of the "work day." What in my comment makes you think that I don't have an important job? Did you ever stop to consider that I may work a night shift? Perhaps I run my own business and make my own schedule. Maybe I was ill and home on a sick day. Vacation? Since you brought up the subject, following your logic, I could ask you the same question since you replied to my comment during "the work day."

I'm just trying to help you out. Hopefully I can help you see that when you make such comments, it makes anything else you say suspect and irrelevant to any cogent arguement.

                Jones,

I have more to add. You really offend me with your comment that I somehow don't give a damn about the people who's jobs may be furloughed during a government shutdown. Let's break this down. The pay and financial security of government employees is not and should not be the responsibility of private citizens or even other government employees. Please explain how we are all to be held accountable for the financial security of some government employee? Every individual has the responsibility to be personally accountable for their finances. It is not my fault that they live paycheck to paycheck. If they do not have savings to cover their expences during a period when they may not receive a paycheck, that is their sole responsibility. That person is the one who made financial decisions and they need to be held accountable for those decisions. Am I incorrect?

If they have no savings and every one of their paychecks goes to expenses, then I dare to say that they have gotten themselves into a bad situation. In addition, those employees would all receive back pay when the business of the government resumed. How many other people out there would be paid in full for services not provided? That seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Lets get this straight...you have a right to spend as freely as you wish. You can buy a big house, 2 cars, plasma TVs and whatever else your heart desired. You DO NOT however, have the right to expect someone else to pay for your financial irresponsibility!

I am offended by your presumptions and comments particularly since I spent 12 years of my life dedicated to serving my country and my countrymen. In addition, my father is a federal retiree, with 38 years of service to the government. How dare you cast aspersions about my concern for my fellow citizens!

                OK, I'm done now.

The President and the Democrats want a shutdown because they perceive it will give them a political advantage in the next election cycle.

I think that is wrong, but that is what they believe.

The President didn't even interrupt campaigning to be involved in the negotiations, he instead had the participants report to the White House for a pep talk (last night and this morning and again tonight) that is really not helping much.

The Republicans have given the President a one week extension that will also fund the pentagon for the remainder of the year (insuring that soldiers get paid no matter how long a shutdown ends up being) and the President says he will veto it

So you see the President and the Democrats are pushing for a shutdown and I think they will get it

We will see if it turns out the way they think it will politically.

Thnaks for the article and poll

Republicans are offering an extension...who cares? How long do you expect things to just go on. How many times have they extended already?

Republicans were going to be punched back in 2012 regardless. They came in talking about jobs.....yet all they've done is target social issues. Heck, they're still stuck on where Obama was born.

Well if they do shut down, I think it is going to last more than a few days and the answer to your question "who cares?" will be the 800,000 employees that will be laid off without pay

The 2012 elections will affected by many things and perhaps you are right, but a shutdown wil help neither party in the election process

Until we get together as, We The People against the infighting, bias, and hatred for everything American that politics in this country has spawned, we will only continue to fall. When someone asks me what I think the number one problem is my statement above is the answer. Not until we fix that will anything else ever change.

Because the GOP are being hypocrites about it. The "spending cuts" that the GOP is offering includes an increase in the Pentagon budget (something Gates has said publicly that they do not need) but of course GOP congressmen have to support the lobbyists/military contractors that got them their jobs.
