Congratulations to the Boston Bruins on ending their three decade long drought for the Stanley Cup. Remarkably the teams representing the Boston area have won championships in each of the four major sports in the last 7 years. Is there another city that has done so in such a short time frame?  I can't think of one.  Remarkably the Patriots now have the longest championship drought in the Boston market. On twitter we came up with a few who had 3 in short period of time.

Mets, Jets and Knicks won in 69-70

Oakland had Warriors, Raiders,A's 74-77

Mets, Islanders, Giants did it 83-86

Yanks, Giants and Rangers from 91-96.

Any others?

Darren Rovell of CNBC points out that up until 1993 the longest drought Canada had was five years but now they haven't won one since 1993.

Most sports come down to money. The bigger the market and more avid the fans, the more money the team can sink into buying...er...getting a championship.

Vancouver blew it though. Up 2-0 and melted down anyways. As for Canada; Canada's chances are always less than American teams. Canada has less teams (in baseball they have one) than the Americans so the law of averages are against them.

I'm a linguist...and sports people have a language I've never been able to keep up with...all the stats and acronymms, etc. A good football game I can keep up with,,,but who owns who, whos where in the standings, on top, bottom and third...I'm out of it.

It's simple: I'm owned by my wife, she stands above me, sometimes I'm on top but I like being on the bottom sometimes.

      Oops...we're talking sports. My bad.

I'm a Boston fan, so it's been a great decade for me. I was waiting to see the Bruins pull it off, but I have to admit I never thought this was their year, not until about ten minutes after game 7 was over.

It probably won't matter much to fans, but it's suppose to be raining in Boston on saturday: Maybe they should move the Bruins parade to sunday for much anticipated weather?

Noting for the record, we're also the only market where all the venues are privately financed and owned. The Bruins/Delaware North own the Garden, Bob Kraft owns Gillete Stadium and Fenway has gone along with team ownership for 99 years.

I'm actually surprised none of libertarian and/or anti-corporatist progressives haven't picked up on this.

I have to be honest I did not know that. Will have to look into that. A lot of teams claim that but they get some sort of tax incentive or another. Yankees made that but they still got a ton of city and state money.

Earlier in the week I wrote something along similar lines on Mark Cuban. He picked up the tab for the Mavericks parade because the city is broke.
