Resigning is the best decision he could have made. What a shame that a good congressman like him actually turned out to be an idiot.

Mr. Weiner, a Democrat, came to the conclusion that he could no longer serve after having long discussions with his wife, Huma Abedin, when she returned home on Tuesday

she apparently talked some sense into him... good for her... and if he's very very lucky she will not dump his ass...

Good for her if that was the case. I already applauded her for not being one of dumb women who actually show up to their husband's press conferences where they admit to their scandals.

In other news, Senator David Vitter (R-LA), who hired hookers, remains in office.

I really don't get the double standard.

Weiner screwed up and that's not up for debate, but a lot of the folks who are calling for his resignation were curiously silent when it was Vitter.

I would agree there is certainly a double standard going on here.. vitter as well ensign both should have resigned,, and both actually committed crimes

Weiner was not a well liked man among the democrats and republicans. Plus, this is not the right climate to have had cyber problems, witness ex-rep Chris Lee.

His 9th district seat will be swallowed up in reappoprtionment/redistricting by democrats, Crowley, Ackerman, Towns, Velazquez and perhaps Nadler.

Weiner lied and lied and now he is gone. No loss.

Weiner lies to keep his personal life personal and is forced to resign.

Kyl lies about Planned Parenthood to push an agenda and claims it was not intended to be a factual statement.

Yes, there are others who have done worse who haven't resigned but as a progressive I want to hold my guys to a higher standard then the hypocrites on the right.

and that is typically how the good guys lose. people screw up. the important is what he screwed up on...it wasn't work related, it wasn't illegal, and it wasn't hypocritical.

      This reliably pisses me off.

Are you an adult? Are you having sex (for free) with another consenting adult? Are you sending pictures of yourself - an adult - to another consenting adult?

Fine. I don't give a @!$%#. Lots of people do that and continue to serve the public admirably.

Oh, you're married, but not to the person you were banging, sexting, whatever?

Still don't care. Lots of people have run around on their wives and continued to serve admirably.

You know who might care? Your constituents. But here's the thing, they can vote you out. They can organize a recall election. You're responsible to them.

If someone three timezones away has a problem with your sex life, that's not a good reason to resign. Now if your sex life broke some laws... that's a different issue.

But I am sick to freaking death of the puritanical bull@!$%# that passes for morality in this country. We're more than happy to watch children - freaking children - suffer needlessly because their parents can't afford medical care and then turn around and congratulate ourselves on our supposed morality because we won't suffer a cheater to serve in Congress.

How freaking backwards is this? How is it possible that this country WON'T hold Congressmen to the same basic LEGAL standards as the rest of the country but WILL happily drive them out of office for something that's perfectly legal?
